BOLO Books Comments:

Anytime Ann Cleeves returns to the Shetland Islands, you can bet I’ll be there for the journey. I am waiting to pick up this one at Malice Domestic – where I will be able to get it autographed. Expect a review in the future, but don’t wait on me, this one will be more than worth it.

Jacket Copy (Publisher’s Description):

In the dark days of a Shetland winter, torrential rain triggers a landslide that crosses the main road and sweeps down to the sea.

At the burial of his old friend Magnus Tait, Jimmy Perez watches the flood of mud and water smash through a house in its path. Everyone thinks the home is uninhabited, but in the wreckage he finds the body of a dark-haired woman wearing a red silk dress. Perez soon becomes obsessed with tracing her identity and realizes he must find out who she was and how she died.

Sandra Block – The Secret Room (Grand Central, Paperback, $14.99, 04/18/2017)

BOLO Books Comments:

This is the third and final book in Sandra Block’s Zoe Goldman series.  Believe me when I tell you that Sandra is not slacking off in this final chapter of Zoe’s story – it just might be the best one yet. Look for a review later this week.

Jacket Copy (Publisher’s Description):

Her patients are dying. Some are apparent suicides and others possible accidents, but rumors are flying that Dr. Zoe Goldman is an angel of death- intentionally helping hopeless cases go to a “better place”- or, worse yet, a dangerously incompetent doctor.

As a new psychiatry fellow at the local correctional facility, Zoe is still learning the ropes while watching her back to avoid some dangerous prisoners. As the deaths mount up, Zoe is wracked with horror and guilt, feverishly trying to figure out what is going wrong and even questioning her own sanity.

What Zoe doesn’t realize is that someone is targeting her patients to get to her. Someone who has access to her deepest secrets and fears. Someone who will stop at nothing to take everything Zoe has, even her life.

J. M. Redmann – The Girl on the Edge of Summer (Bold Stroke, Paperback, $16.95, 04/18/2017)

BOLO Books Comments:

J. M. Redmann’s long-awaited return to Micky Knight. Anyone looking to add some diversity to their crime fiction reading would be wise to check out Redmann’s novels – and the Micky Knight series in particular.

Jacket Copy (Publisher’s Description):

Micky Knight reluctantly takes on two cases, one for money, one for pity. The first is a trawl though archives to solve a century old murder for an arrogant grandson who thinks riches should absolve his family of any sins. The other, to answer a mother’s anguish as she tries to understand her daughter’s suicide. Micky sees no happy ending to either case; the dusty pages of history aren’t going to give up their secrets after holding them for so long. And even if she finds answers for the mother’s questions, nothing will bring her daughter back. But as Micky discovers, the past is never past and a young girl can lead a complicated, even dangerous, life. The secrets, both past and present, are meant to remain hidden—only the first murder is hard. The rest come easy.

BOLO Books Comments:

I don’t know much about this one, other than what we get in this synopsis. But it sure does sound good.  Join me in taking a leap – let’s try something new.

Jacket Copy (Publisher’s Description):

“If you ever say anything to anyone, they all die.”

When eight-year-old Greer Donner falls off his horse in the Washington wilderness, he braces himself to face the long hike home alone. But screams pierce the darkness, and he stumbles upon a dead-end road where a man is beating a woman—nearly to death. In a moment of courage, he stops the assault, but he’s left to face the man, who turns his wrath into an ominous threat: if the boy ever reveals what he has seen, his family will pay the ultimate price. The secret Greer now carries begins his emotional unraveling.

In Seattle, Gillian Trett is a photographer with a troubled marriage and a childhood she’s trying to forget. Domestic tension mounts when her husband’s stepsister arrives. Desperate for a distraction, and a way to advance her career, Gillian throws herself into uncovering the history behind an old man’s Holocaust photo of boys in a forest. The mysterious children and the truth behind the scene haunt her—she can’t let go of the image, or of her own shadowed past.

Then a horrifying revelation entangles Gillian’s path with young Greer’s. The boy and the woman, separated by a generation and a hundred miles, each confront the terrible power of harbored secrets—not only to eclipse the truth but also to illuminate the dark, unknown dimensions of their loved ones and themselves.
