From the Booking Desk:

Time for another entry in this incredibly popular feature here at BOLO Books – The APB (All Points Bulletin).

As always, competition for these slots was tough. Which books are generating that elusive buzz in the publishing industry? Which are books that I personally have been waiting for? As always, I try to keep this a mixture of books from heavy-hitters and those newer to our genre – and across all sub-genres.

This feature works in conjunction with the weekly BOLO (Be On the Look Out) posts. Both are intended to highlight books that I am excited about in advance of their release date. In the case of the APB, the format is simply to present a gallery featuring the covers, the official release date of each book, and a brief explanation of why I am anticipating the title.

As we get closer to that release date, the BOLO post will give you more detailed information on each title, but in the meantime, feel free to research these titles on your own. And remember to pre-order!

Available July 24

I have said for a long time that we need to get younger readers enjoying our genre, and now MWA is releasing a horror/mystery anthology aimed at that crowd – with some of our favorite authors: Chris Grabenstein, Wendy Corsi Staub, Heather Graham, Steven Hockensmith, Daniel Palmer, and fifteen others.

Available August 7

It is no secret that Lori Rader-Day is one of my favorite crime writers. Just read my reviews of The Black Hour, Little Pretty Things, and The Day I Died to find out why. But I would have been on-board for a mystery set in a dark sky park even if I didn’t already know that Lori would write the hell out of that setting. (Also a contender for favorite cover of the year.)

Available August 8

If you read my review of Hollywood Homicide, you no doubt noticed that I was a huge fan, which is why I hosted the cover reveal for this second book in the series. I have been thrilled to see so much award love coming Kellye’s direction and I can’t wait to visit with Dayna and her gang once again. Glltz, glamour, and laughter included – no extra charge.

Available August 14

Another book for which I hosted the cover reveal. Most of us have read Richard Connell’s short story “The Most Dangerous Game” while in grade-school, but Nick Kolakowski is updating the conceit for the Noir crowd and I can’t wait to see how the idea plays out in today’s world.

Available August 21

Karin Slaughter consistently satisfies her ever-growing base of fans with each new novel she releases. With a plot that involves a mall shooting leading to familial revelations, her latest seems tailor-made to keep me up all night reading. Karin is also one of the Guests of Honors at this year’s Bouchercon in St. Petersburg, so if you have always wanted to meet her, this is your chance.

Available August 21

A debut domestic suspense novel will always get my attention. Early buzz on this one whispers of a killer twist – so count me in!

Available August 28

BOLO Books fans know that I have thoroughly enjoyed what Sophie Hannah has achieved in her Hercule Poirot continuations. With both The Monogram Murders and Closed Casket she managed to pay homage to the Christie classics while making the books feel modern and fresh. I can’t wait to see how this new one plays out.

Available September 4

Sarah Pinborough’s Behind Her Eyes divided readers, but I was consumed and enjoyed it despite the unexpected genre-hopping. Enough so that this new novel is one of my most anticipated reads of the year.

Available September 18

Calling this novel Heathers and Mean Girls for the gay community seems a bit redundant, but serves its purpose – in other words, I am so totally excited for this YA novel, you simply can’t imagine.  I’ve been a Raziel Reid fan for a while now, and this one is poised to solidify my fan-boy-ness.

Available September 18

The romance novels of Jude Deveraux hold a special place in my reading history, so while I haven’t read her in years, I am intrigued enough to see how her style blends with the crime genre.
