From the Booking Desk:

Penni Jones was a fan of BOLO Books for some time before she approached me asking if I would consider blurbing her book, Kricket. While I don’t always accept these requests, there was something about Penni and the premise of her novel that made me want to know more. I read the book, loved it, and eventually provided the following blurb: “Owing no small debt to this novel’s timely dystopian backdrop, contemporary readers are sure to connect with Kricket Foster as a ‘woke’ warrior woman worthy of cherishing and championing.” Today, I am happy to introduce more readers to Penni and her work with this Composite Sketch.

Name: Penni Jones
Location: Ann Arbor, Michigan (but I’m native Arkansan)

This person from my personal life is such an inspiration:

My kids are a constant source of inspiration (and exhaustion). Watching them learn and try new things is a great reminder that I have to keep writing even when it’s difficult.

One of the people I admire most in the crime fiction community is:

A top ten would have been much easier. But if it’s just one, I’m going with Libby Kirsch. She’s a magical mix of artistic and organized. She maintains total control of her career while writing fantastic books and raising three kids. And she’s always available when a friend needs advice. I’m pretty sure Libby is super-human.

STALKER ALERT! If this fictional character were real, they would likely need to get a restraining order against me:

Marla Singer. The way she navigates the world and the lengths she goes to for the sake of feeling things fascinates me. I’m sure I would regret her influence, but it would be worth it.

People are always surprised that I am a fan of this individual (singer, actor, or artist):

Henry Rollins. I’m not a huge fan of his music, but I’m into his books and spoken word. I’ve seen him speak a few times, and I’m amazed at his ability to captivate an audience for about three hours with no breaks. I don’t agree with every single thing he says, but his pragmatism and insights are worth the listen.

My personal catch phrase is (or should be):

“Reality is an interpretation.” It’s not groundbreaking. But remembering that a slight change in perception can make situations easier has been really helpful in my life.
