From the Booking Desk:
It is time for the first Composite Sketch of 2019 and I can’t think of a better individual to launch us into this new year. I first became acquainted with Alex Segura through his excellent work with Archie Comics. Then his first Pete Fernandez Mystery was released and I have watched his success grow with each new book in that series ever since.
You would be hard pressed for find a nicer guy in the crime fiction community, always willing to lend a hand to his fellow authors and community members. He is a joy to be around and getting a thumbs up from Alex is a longed for goal for many of his friends and fans.
Let’s find out a bit more about Alex Segura and the next time you see him at a convention, be sure to say hi.
Name: Alex Segura
Location: New York via Miami
This person from my personal life is such an inspiration:
So many people. I’m lucky to be surrounded by smart, driven friends and family. I’m continually inspired and in awe of what they do. First and foremost, my wife Eva – who is an amazing person – dedicated to her family, her job and trying to make the world a better place. She’s exceedingly smart and present, and I’m lucky to know her.
One of the people I admire most in the crime fiction community is:
Jon and Ruth Jordan are my rocks in this community. They knew and supported me before I even had a word written of my first novel, Silent City, and they continue to be huge supporters and lifelong friends. Long before I realized I could do this, they knew. I’ll never forget talking to Jon, a few weeks after sending him a draft of my first book, and hearing him say: “It’s pretty good. Now go back and make it better.” He lifted my spirits and also taught me an important lesson – just because you finished doesn’t mean the work is done. I owe them a lot and I consider them family.
STALKER ALERT! If this fictional character were real, they would likely need to get a restraining order against me:
I will forever have a crush on Sara Gran’s off-kilter PI, Claire DeWitt. Those books are magnificent and it’s all because of that character. Everything springs from her unique, sublime personality. I just love her.
People are always surprised that I am a fan of this individual (singer, actor, or artist):
Madonna. But what’s not to love? She’s a queen.
My personal catch phrase is (or should be):
“No worries” or “When in doubt, plug someone’s book.”
When in doubt, plug someone’s book. I love it!
I agree with Mark; that is a fabulous tagline. (Can I steal it?)
You’re absolutely right. He is THE nicest guy in the crime fiction community, and possibly all communities. (Also, totally predicted the Madonna thing.)
